It’sa Me Megses!

*Taps mic* Is this thing on? *winces at the loud screech* That’s my cue: Hello Interwebs!

*waits for applause to die down*

So uh, hey everybody! I haven’t planned out what I want to say too thoroughly, but I thought since I was officially christening this bad boy I might as well start off with an introduction.

Here goes:

I’m Meg *waves excitedly*

One of the things that I would love to do on my blog, in addition to share my love of books as well as document my foray into the world of indie publishing, is introduce you guys to other fabulous indie authors. In that spirit, let’s do a little interview (yes, I’m totally aware it’s weird to be interviewing myself, but hey as an author you get used to the voices in your head.)

Hi! Welcome to the blog, we’re so excited to have you here!

Thanks!!! Trust me, it’s my pleasure.

So let’s start off with an easy one, did you always want to be a writer?

I think so, at least to some degree. I’ve had a pretty passionate love affair with books since I was little, to the extent I was once grounded for getting caught reading when I was supposed to be asleep. Ha, I know – total rebel. To answer the question though, I started writing lots of poems in middle school and then started and finished my first manuscript (which I think my mom has a copy of somewhere that I haven’t tracked down and burned) the summer I was eleven. I had run out of things to read and didn’t have any money to buy new books so I had to create my own. The passion really grew from there, and while I had lots of works in progress, I didn’t seriously pursue it until earlier this year.

What genres do you write and why?

So far Fantasy and Contemporary Romance. I don’t see myself straying too far from anything under the Romance umbrella, I needs myself a love story (even if it takes awhile to reach the HEA.)

Time for a serious one: Are you a sweet or salty snacker?

hahahahaha – why not both? Although I have a pretty epic sweet tooth. I once started dipping french fries in a milk shake, that was a mind blowing experience. I do have an addiction to these peanut butter chocolate chip bars – they are called “Perfect Bars” and they really are. I think they’re considered a “healthy” snack… all I know is they taste like cookie dough.

That’s awesome, I am totally going to look into those.

You really should, they are fantastic!

Where do you get your ideas?

Traffic. No seriously, I do some of my best day dreaming while stuck on the 110 or 405. I’ve woken up a few times with entire scenes in my head, that’s always cool too.

What’s something you can’t live without?

I love my family and everything (Hi Mom!) but I could not live without stories, in any of their forms. Music, movies, television shows, books… you name it. I need a way to get lost in other worlds and see my own through different eyes. Truly masterful writers create worlds you can escape in for awhile, and it’s what my soul requires in order to get through the not so great parts of life. But I would also like to keep my cat Henry and my baby blanket please, so don’t think you can sneak off with those while I’m not looking. I will hunt you down!

When did you release your first book and what’s it about?

I released my debut novel on August 1, 2017 (literally a month ago!) It’s a Fantasy Romance called Mother of Shadows and it is the first in a series. If I had to sum up MoS I would say it’s a book about self discovery, but then what book isn’t? It’s protagonist is Helena who finds out that she is the prophesied ruled of a group of magical beings known as the Chosen. Up to that point she believed that she had no power at all, so not only does she need to learn how to access and use her magic, she also has to undergo a trial that will test her abilities to use it. While her magic is essentially going through puberty she is also tasked with finding the man who carries the other half of her soul. His name is Von and he is 100% misunderstood bad boy. I should also warn you it’s a cliffhanger. #sorrynotsorry It really was where the story needed to end in order to set up Book 2 (which will be out in January 2018).

I’ve been told that character’s talk to their authors. Do yours speak to you? What do they say?

LOL! Um… I don’t know about talk to me, but I certainly feel like I know them. In my heart they are living breathing people and I’m entirely too invested in what happens to them. I full on sobbed during a few of the scenes I’ve written because it felt like my own heart was breaking. I guess that’s how you know you did a good job though. If Von was speaking to me I’m sure it would be snarky or dirty things, so I’d be okay with that I guess. Helena probably wouldn’t like it much though.

Having read the book I am going to go ahead and agree with you on that one.Β

Mmmhmmmm. Don’t blame her.

Me either. So next question, you mentioned Book 2, anything else you are working on?

Yes – currently I am finishing up a novella entitled SyncedΒ for a holiday anthology that will be released in December. The novella introduces my readers to my Contemp. Romance world and a couple of the MCs from the full length novel make a guest appearance in it. I am also getting ready to start another fantasy romance novella for a different anthology that will release in January.

That sounds awesome… and like a lot going on at once. Are you a full time writer?

No, not yet! (and it really is, some days I have to choose between eating during my lunch or getting some words down) I do hope to become a full-time writer some day, that would be my “made it” moment.

So how do you recharge?

Binge watch netflix or read. Sometimes if I’m too wrapped up in my own characters I can’t get into other books and have to stick with TV/Movies, but that’s rare and usually when I’m in the middle of intense scenes. I also like to have snuggle breaks with Henry. He’s not very good at catting though, he doesn’t realize that cuddles are how he pays for all the treats he gets.

Tell us something few people know about you.

I used to be a film and tv make-up artist! Well, I tried, it obviously didn’t work out like I planned, but it was a lot of fun. I collected lots of pictures and autographs over those 3 years.

Meg thank you so much for your time! Where can our readers connect with you if they have questions?
